French version of the newsletter here.   Selection of the highlights of the past weeks     2 December After a fruitful cooperation with the G20 2024, chaired by Brazil, South Africa is renewing UNESCO's role as a privileged partner of the G20 2025 and extending cooperation to the work of the finance ministers, with artificial intelligence as a priority and a special support to Africa in this field.     2 December UNESCO launched the International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development (2024-2033) at the Open Science Forum for Latin America and the Caribbean (CILAC) in San Andrés (Colombia) and announced the first ‘’Call for Initiatives’’ for sustainable change in our societies, economies and environment.     2-6 December At the conclusion of the 19th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, held in Asunción (Republic of Paraguay), UNESCO now counts 788 elements in 150 countries, with the inscription of 2 elements on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding, 58 elements on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and 3 programmes inscribed on the Register of Good Safeguarding Practices. Find all the information on the dedicated website.       Major upcoming events     9-11 December The 4th UNESCO World Forum against Racism and Discrimination will be held in Barcelona (Spain). On this occasion, UNESCO will launch the Fit for Life network against racism. Registration and more information here.     10 December To mark Human Rights Day, UNESCO is organising a Campus XL ‘Tribute to Robert Badinter’, former Minister of Justice and President of the Constitutional Council of France, with the special participation of Elisabeth Badinter and Volker Turk, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. The event will bring together more than 750 students from Paris and the Île-de-France region, who will have the opportunity to attend a screening of the documentary ‘Robert Badinter, la vie avant tout’ (Robert Badinter, life before all else) and to exchange with the filmmaker, Romain Icard, and with experts on human rights, the fight against discrimination, anti-Semitism and other forms of prejudice.     17 December To mark the nomination of Pharrell Williams as UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Arts Education and Entrepreneurship, UNESCO is hosting an exclusive screening of ‘Piece by Piece’, an animated Lego film retracing the career of Pharrell Williams, an international cultural icon.     Also to be followed: 10-11 December - 2024 UNESCO Forum on higher education in Africa (Nairobi, Kenya) 18 December - International Migrants Day 18 December – World Arabic Language Day 2024     Treasure to (re)discover     The Al Hadba minaret is back in place in Mosul's urban landscape - after several years of work, and at the same time as the reopening of Notre Dame de Paris, the reconstruction of Mosul' s famous minaret marks another decisive step in the “ Reviving the Spirit of Mosul” initiative. UNESCO House: Programme of cultural activities To keep up to date with the cultural activities organized at UNESCO Headquarters, subscribe now to the bi-monthly newsletter and find here the list of activities occupying the rooms at headquarters (updated on a weekly basis).   UNESCO at a glance: Institutional campaign #SharingHumanity Historic video: The UNESCO Adventure Series of new videos for potential partners on the theme "UNESCO in your region": Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Arab region and Asia/Pacific.     Les temps forts de la semaine écoulée     2 décembre Après une coopération fructueuse avec le G20 2024, présidé par le Brésil, l’Afrique du Sud reconduit l'UNESCO en tant que partenaire privilégiée du G20 2025 et étent la coopération aux travaux des ministres des Finances avec pour priorité l’intelligence artificielle et un soutien tout particulier à l’Afrique dans ce domaine.     2 décembre L'UNESCO a lancé la Décennie internationale des sciences au service du développement durable (2024-2033) lors du Forum de la science ouverte pour l’Amérique latine et les Caraïbes (CILAC) à San Andrés (Colombie) et a annoncé le premier « Appel à initiatives » pour le changement durable dans nos sociétés, nos économies et notre environnement.     2-6 décembre A l'issue de la 19ème session du Comité intergouvernemental pour la sauvegarde du patrimoine culturel immatériel qui s’est tenu à Asunción (République du Paraguay), l’UNESCO compte désormais 788 éléments dans 150 pays avec l’inscription de 2 éléments sur la Liste du patrimoine culturel immatériel nécessitant une sauvegarde urgente, 58 éléments sur la Liste représentative du patrimoine culturel immatériel de l’humanité et 3 programmes inscrits au Registre de bonnes pratiques de sauvegarde.
