PHILIPPINES - CTGP

-By prof. dr. Belen Tangco

Dear Friends, in your apostolate your rightly take into account that the art of educating must be constantly cultivated and nurtured, for it is not something acquired once and for all…Young people of one generation differ from those of the next. Educators, then must continually reassess their own motivations and their methods… Your task in this regard is to help teachers maintain their desire to grow together with their student, to find the most effective ways of transmitting the joy of learning and the desire for truth, by employing language and cultural forms suited to young people of today. (Pope Francis in his address to the UMEC-WUCT, 12 November 2022).

This most inspiring message resonates in the hearts of educators who wish to weather surging tides of change and technological revolutions. transformative education could help empower learners to see the social world differently through an ethical lens. Critical pedagogy aims to connect with learners’ personal and emotional experience, and engages these experiences through dialogue that integrates different perspectives, including affective knowledge. These efforts need a commitment to continually create a more ethical society.

The various seminars and webinars conducted by the Catholic Teachers’ Guild of the Philippines (CTGP), with almost two thousand members from various schools dwelt on seamless learning and strategies that work on integral education of the human participant in pursuit of truth guided by reason and illuminated by faith, knowledge creation, integration, dissemination and that work on integral education of the human participant in pursuit of truth guided by reason and illuminated by faith, knowledge creation, integration, dissemination and application of knowledge to form competent and compassionate persons committed to serve the Church, the nation, and the global community.

It is the statement of the University of Santo Tomas (UST’s) Mission. Pontifical and Royal University. A research university, faithful to her centuries-old tradition of excellence, envisions herself by 2030 as a leading Catholic institution of learning in Asia-Pacific, committed to the integral formation of her stakeholders for social transformation.

Yesterday, January 28, 2023, we celebrated the Feast of St. Thomas Aquinas, patron saint of the University and of other Catholic Schools and Universities. The Angelic Doctor of the Church, whose canonization jubilee we celebrated this year 2023, death jubilee in 2023, and birth celebration in 2025.
Over a week ago, the Vice-Rector for Religious Affairs and yours truly had mentioned over a working lunch the celebration of Thomas Aquinas’ birth in 2025 in collaboration with the UMEC-WUCT. Many possibilities in activities indeed and yours truly had mentioned over a working lunch the celebration of Thomas Aquinas’ birth in 2025 in collaboration with the UMEC-WUCT.
