WHAT APPETITE DO YOU HAVE?

Ethics and virtue in life and in society: 

A utopia, a hope, a commitment.

According to Aristotle, the appetite is the natural tendency for each person to realize what he or she considers "good." The concept of good is closely related to the way of understanding life and the manner of relating to others and society. The recent study by the OCSE, Trust in Government, comparatively analyzes the situation of 29 countries in the world in regards to corruption, highlighting the need, from the earliest years of life, to teach and to exercise the ethics of good citizenship.  Therefore, the report reminds all of the institutions called upon of their responsibility to take care of the growth of good citizens. However, even the citizens must know how to take care of the institutions. In fact, often the unvirtuous citizens make institutions empty of value and full of wrongdoing.

The ethical life consists of taking "care of oneself, care of others, and care of the institutions" (P. Ricoeur). One develops the ability to take care of oneself from birth thanks to the commitment and example of educators-leaders and to life in environments that favor the practice of virtue. The ethics of care interact with the ethics of justice thanks to an idea of good (the so-called common good) that unites the self and the other. It is the willingness to "be ready" for the other that characterizes the act with care.

There is no life without the ethical practice of virtue. I refer to human and civic virtues that interact well with those promoted by religion and favor its development. "Virtue is a habit and creates a firm disposition to do good.   The   human virtues are firm attitudes, stable dispositions, and habitual perfections of intellect and will that govern our actions, order our passions, and guide our conduct according to reason and faith. They make possible self-mastery and joy in leading a morally good life. The virtuous person is he or she who freely practices the good. Every virtue allows the person not only to perform good acts, but also to give the best of himself or herself. With all of his or her sensory and spiritual energy, the virtuous person tends toward the good; researching and choosing it in concrete actions." Thus, this affirms the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Some virtues have a pivotal function; they are called cardinals: justice, fortitude, prudence, and temperance. Indeed, “if one loves justice, virtues are the fruits of his or her labor. In fact, the virtues teach temperance and prudence, justice and fortitude” (Sap 8.7). The other virtues gravitate around them. The virtues are not declaimed but lived, matured day by day, even in the little choices and actions of our daily lives.

The appetite to do good guides and supports in making sound choices and living a virtuous lifestyle. A good appetite ...........

The World Congress of Catholic education

Several thousands of teachers and directors in Catholic schools and universities around the world participated in the Congress organized by the Congregation for Catholic Education of the Holy See. The prestigious initiative, prepared since long, with considerable effort, especially thanks to the dynamism of Monsignor Vincenzo Zani and the scientific coordination of Professor Italo Fiorin, was a very appropriate way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Declaration Gravissimum Educationis approved by the Council Vatican II and the 25th anniversary of Ex Corde Ecclesiae, the Apostolic Constitution on the identity and mission of the Catholic University, promulgated by John Paul II.

Last year, the Congregation prepared a Instrumentum Laboris - Working Paper to help all ecclesial institutes, schools and Catholic universities as well as all Catholic teachers to discuss the present educational problems. It suggested operational measures to improve the quality of education and to relaunch the Church's commitment to respond adequately to the educational emergency........

El Congreso Mundial de la educación católica

Varios miles de maestros y directores de escuelas y universidades católicas de todo el mundo participaron en el Congreso organizado por la Congregación para la Educación Católica de la Santa Sede.

       La prestigiosa iniciativa, preparado desde hace mucho tiempo, con un esfuerzo considerable, sobre todo gracias al dinamismo de monseñor Vincenzo Zani y la coordinación científica del profesor Italo Fiorin, era una manera muy apropiada para celebrar el 50 aniversario de la Declaración Gravissimum Educationis aprobado por el Concilio Vaticano II y el 25 aniversario de la Ex Corde Ecclesiae, la Constitución Apostólica sobre la identidad y la misión de la universidad católica, promulgada por Juan Pablo II. El año pasado, la Congregación ha preparado un documento de trabajo para ayudar a todos: iglesia, escuelas y universidades católicas y maestros católicos para discutir los problemas educativos emergentes para sugerir pistas y medidas operativas para mejorar la calidad de la educación y .......

Le congrès mondial de l’éducation catholique

Plusieurs milliers d’enseignants et dirigeants catholiques des écoles et universités du monde entier ont participé au congrès organisé par la congrégation pour l’éducation catholique du Saint Siège. La prestigieuse initiative, préparée depuis longtemps, avec un  remarquable travail, en particulier grâce à la dynamique de Monseigneur Vincenzo Zani et à la coordination scientifique du professeur Italo Fiorin a été un moyen très opportun pour célébrer les 50 ans de la déclaration Gravissimus Educationis, lancée  par le concile Vatican II et le 25° de la Ex Corde Ecclesiae, la constitution apostolique sur l’identité  et sur la mission de l’université catholique promulguée par Jean Paul II. L’année dernière la Congrégation a préparé un « Instrumentum Laboris » pour aider toutes les réalité ecclésiales, les écoles et les universités catholiques, et aussi les enseignants catholiques à débattre des problèmes éducatifs émergeants afin de suggérer des pistes opérationnelles capables d’améliorer la qualité de l’éducation et de relancer l’engagement de l’église pour répondre de façon adaptée aux besoins éducatifs......

Il Congresso mondiale dell’educazione cattolica

      Diverse migliaia di docenti e dirigenti cattolici delle scuole e delle università di tutto il mondo hanno partecipato al Congresso organizzato dalla Congregazione per l’Educazione Cattolica della Santa Sede. La prestigiosa iniziativa, preparata da tempo, con notevole impegno, in particolare grazie alla dinamicità di S. E. Monsignor Vincenzo Zani e al coordinamento scientifico del professore Italo Fiorin, è stata un modo quanto mai opportuno per celebrare i 50 anni della Dichiarazione Gravissimum Educationis varata dal Concilio Vaticano II,   e il 25° della Ex Corde Ecclesiae , la Costituzione apostolica sull’identità  e sulla missione dell’università cattolica, promulgata da Giovanni Paolo II. Lo scorso anno la Congregazione ha preparato un Instrumentum Laboris per aiutare tutte le realtà ecclesiali, le scuole e le università cattoliche, nonché gli insegnanti cattolici a dibattere le problematiche educative emergenti al fine di suggerire piste operative atte a migliorare la qualità dell’educazione e di rilanciare l’impegno della Chiesa per rispondere adeguatamente all’emergenza educativa. Apprenons à mieux servir 

 La pédagogie du service learning

C’est une étroite inter connexion entre l’apprentissage et le service à la communauté. Apprendre génère et soutient la capacité de se rendre utile à soi même et aux autres, et le service rendu génère l’apprentissage. Ce sont les idées portées par le Séminaire international mis en avant par la Congrégation pour l’Education Catholique et par l’Université LUMSA, en collaboration avec le Ministère de l’éducation de l’Italie, au siège prestigieux de l’Académie Pontificale des Sciences au Vatican.

Le Séminaire a favorisé la connaissance de la pédagogie proposée par le service learning, une approche qui oriente les étudiants vers le service à la communauté, et ce fut l’occasion de présenter l’Ecole de Haute Formation « Eduquer à la rencontre et à la solidarité » soutenue par la LUMSA et par la Congrégation EC, dirigée par le professeur Italo Fiorin. ....

Let us learn to better serve

 The pedagogy of service learning

   It is a narrow inter-connection between learning and the service to the community.  To learn generates and sustains the capacity to make oneself useful to oneself and to others, and the service rendered generates the learning. These are the ideas delivered by the International Seminary , put forward by the Congregation for Catholic Education and by the University LUMSA, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education in Italy, at the prestigious See of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences at the Vatican.
   The Seminary has favoured the knowledge of the proposed pedagogy through service learning, an approach which leads the students towards service to the community, and it was the occasion/opportunity to present the School of Higher Education ‘’To Educate at the meeting and at the solidarity’’, supported by LUMSA  and the EC Congregation, led by Professor Italo Fiorin........

“Fare del bene fa bene!” C’è una stretta interconnessione tra l’apprendimento e il servizio alla comunità. L’apprendere genera e sostiene la capacità di rendersi utili a se stessi e agli altri e il servizio genera apprendimento. Queste le idee portanti del Convegno internazionale promosso dalla Congregazione per l’Educazione Cattolica e dalla LUMSA, in collaborazione con il Ministero dell’Istruzione, Università e Ricerca, nella  prestigiosa sede della Pontificia Accademia delle Scienze in Vaticano. Nell’occasione è stata espressa viva gratitudine al cardinale Grocholewski che, proprio in quel giorno, concludeva il suo servizio di Prefetto della Congregazione e ha voluto salutare i partecipanti.

Il Convegno ha favorito la conoscenza della proposta pedagogica del Service Learning, un approccio che orienta gli studenti verso il servizio alla comunità, ed è stato anche occasione per presentare la Scuola di Alta Formazione “Educare all’incontro e alla solidarietà”, promossa dalla LUMSA e dalla Congregazione EC,  diretta dal professor Italo Fiorin. L’intensa giornata di lavoro ha favorito un ampio dibattito sulle problematiche connesse al Service Learning grazie alla partecipazione di esperti provenienti da varie parti del mondo (chiesa, università, scuole, associazioni professionali, ...).

LA PEDAGOGIA DEL SERVICIO DE APRENDIZAJE 

Hacer bein hace bien! Existe una estrecha relación entre el aprendizaje y el servicio a la comunidad. El aprendizaje genera y apoya la capacidad de ser útiles a sí mismos ya los demás, y el servicio realizado genera aprendizaje. Estas son las ideas de la Conferencia Internacional organizada por la Congregación para la Educación Católica y la LUMSA, en colaboración con el Ministerio italiano de Educación,  en la prestigiosa sede de la Academia Pontificia de las Ciencias en el Vaticano.

El Convenio ha fomentado el conocimiento de la pedagogía del Servicio de Aprendizaje (Service Learning), un enfoque que dirige a los estudiantes con el servicio comunitario, y fue también la ocasión para presentar la Escuela de Alta Formación "Educar al encuentro y la solidaridad", promovido por la LUMSA y la Congregación EC y dirigido por el profesor Italo Fiorin. La intensa jornada de trabajo ha promovido un amplio debate sobre las cuestiones relacionadas con el Service Learning (servicio de aprendizaje) con la participación de expertos de diferentes partes del mundo (iglesias, universidades, colegios, asociaciones profesionales, organismos ..). .....

LAS RAÍCES

Nos pasó al conseguir plantas para regalar? O para comprar? A veces parecen plantas exuberantes, con hermosas flores, pero .... después de unos pocos días se marchitan. Tal vez tenemos que cambiar el recipiente, usted se pregunta. Intenta, pero te das cuenta de que la planta no tiene raíces!

La cotidiana y alarmante noticia que recibimos de diferentes zonas del mundo, especialmente aquellas zonas en las que está el autodenominado el estado islámico, nos muéstra una furia feroz para erradicar la memoria milenaria de la civilización antigua y las raíces del mundo occidental.

Es una loca y ciega operación por la desertificación. Es fácil, de hecho, trasformar un florido bosque en un árido desierto, es muy difícil de hacer lo contrario, especialmente cuando el suelo está lleno de herbicidas venenosas!

Estos terribles acontecimientos son condenados con prontitud y se resistieron, con la esperanza de que una paz duradera garantizará un progreso real para toda persona y de cada pueblo. Tal barbarie debemos preguntarnos por qué no encuentra un terreno bien fértil en nuestra casa.

Incluso en Europa y muchos otros países de todo el mundo (incluyendo el nuestro), de hecho, con el pretexto del laicismo y la libertad, se manifiestan intentos velados o explícitos en la erradicación y la desertificación. El laicismo no es una tabla rasa; no hace que la gente y las instituciones sean algo inodoro e insípido; No esteriliza ni homogeniza!

El ser laico debe denotar una actitud positiva de respeto y promoción de las personas y la cultura. La verdadera laicidad y la verdadera libertad, de hecho, no se rigen por la lógica individualista o colonialista, pero si por la promoción del bien común. La laicidad es un valor positivo: no es posible impedir todo para no desagradar a nadie. Es más bien promover el conocimiento, el diálogo, el desarrollo, la interacción pacífica, el uso responsable de la libertad.

Hay eventos que debe darnos una pausa: la negativa a hacer referencia a las raíces cristianas en la Constitución Europea, que dicen "secularizar" fiestas y tradiciones típicamente cristiana, vaciarlos de contenido y significado, la falta de educación en valores en muchas familias y, a veces incluso, en las instituciones civiles y educativas, los arrogante francotiradores de los medios contra los valores fundamentales para el individuo y la sociedad, la escasa cultura de la que muchos están contentos .... son formas de desertificación cultural e incluso la castración cultural. Casi parece que se le diga a la gente que arrancar árboles de bosques caducifolios para plantar calabazas, de acuerdo a los caprichos de la moda de turno.

No arranquemos las raíces de la generación más joven! Basamos el crecimiento de raíces fuertes, que por supuesto necesitan un suelo fértil y bien cuidado, y la poda de la planta, ya que cada árbol es floreciente y da buen fruto. Nosotros no tomamos la memoria y el futuro de nuestros hijos, la reducción de los OMG o de los pollos de engorde, así engordados para la masacre.

Los terrenos baldíos pronto fueron ganados por espinas y malezas traídas por los vientos del día; están colonizados por malezas invasoras. Nosotros nos ayudamos a nosotros mismos y a nuestros hijos para recordar, para crecer apoyados y guiados por los valores que exaltan la dignidad de cada persona y fundaron la comunidad, tales como el diálogo, el altruismo, la cooperación, el amor por la vida y por la medio ambiente, la democracia, la no violencia, la sencillez, la espiritualidad, la justicia ....

Debemos hacer memoria para no olvidar y para construir un futuro mejor! Por ejemplo, ¿cuál es la fiesta de la Pascua si no nos ayudamos a nosotros mismos y a los jóvenes, como los niños, a entender la Pascua histórica, cultural y religiosa, lo que la caracteriza, el mensaje que viene, el comportamiento más apropiado para hacer la verdadera fiesta ....? La cultura es la comprensión inteligente, no el prejuicio estúpido!

Sin esto, la Pascua permanece como migas con moho de los dulces de Pascua, alguna resaca o alienación, algunos destellos del folclore. Todavía un desarraigo de la cultura, la esterilización, la pérdida de la memoria y la fertilidad.
