The World Report 2026: a global perspective on Catholic higher education

The International Federation of Catholic Universities
(IFCU) has published its 2026 World Report on Catholic Higher Education,
a reference document intended to provide a structured, forward-looking overview
of the dynamics currently affecting Catholic universities worldwide.
In a context marked by profound transformations –
geopolitical changes, the restructuring of higher education systems, cultural
and ethical tensions, and technological acceleration – this report aims to
equip university leaders, management teams and institutional actors to better
understand contemporary challenges and inform future strategic choices.
A comprehensive and comparative approach
The result of monitoring, analysis and synthesis
carried out by the IFCU, the report takes a resolutely international
approach, taking into account the diversity of regional, cultural and
institutional contexts in which Catholic universities operate.
It highlights:

the major
structural trends affecting Catholic higher education in different
regions of the world;
·
the issues
of governance, mission and identity specific to Catholic institutions;
·
the dynamics
of academic, societal and international positioning in
increasingly competitive environments;

the tensions and
opportunities related to the politicisation of campuses, academic
freedom and institutional responsibility.
A strategic tool for member universities
Beyond diagnosis, the World Report 2026 is intended as
a decision-making tool. It offers frameworks for interpretation,
points of comparison and areas for vigilance, enabling IFCU member universities
