EDUCATION, A TRUE INVESTMENT
FOR DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE
In recent days, a delegation from Rwanda, led by
Cardinal Antoine Kambanda, Metropolitan Archbishop of Kigali and Grand
Chancellor of IPEA (Institute for the Educational Pact for Africa ), was present in Rome to
discuss the various initiatives undertaken and to be undertaken for the
development of the Educational Pact.
Cardinal Rwanda (who participated in the Consistory of
Cardinals, presided over by Pope Leo) is the first cardinal in Rwanda's
history. He is a particularly important figure for the African Church and for
the path of reconciliation, reconstruction, and attention to the person who has
marked his country's recent history.
He was also joined by Professor Jan-Paul Niygena,
Secretary General of the International Foundation for Religion and Society, and
coordinator of IPEA.
IPEA, in collaboration with Catholic universities, not
only in Africa, and the UMEC-WUCT, is developing five major axes of research
and innovation in education, starting with African contexts: training of
trainers and managers of national networks; dissemination and diffusion of
knowledge and best practices; support for local stakeholders in the field; and
organization of a continental and international forum for consultation, sharing
of ideas, and experiences.
Since 2017, religious leaders (cardinals, bishops, lay
people, etc.) have been working to improve the quality of Catholic education in
Africa.
Umec-Wuct operates there with its representatives,
supporting not only education but also various projects and social welfare
facilities. Thanks to its interaction with the papal foundation and the
constant work of its then president and secretary general, as well as the
active presence of Father Albert Kabuge (now the Union's representative to
UNESCO), Umec-Wuct has promoted various initiatives for over fifteen years,
also cooperating with UNESCO, which has shown and continues to show
appreciation for the Union's work. The Holy See pays close attention to the
African Educational Pact and the various initiatives undertaken.
Even today, UMEC-WUCT is committed to this.
Last May, the President, Jan De Groof, the prof Theresa Okafor, and various
local representatives of the Union participated in the conference on Catholic
education in Africa, coordinated by Cardinal Kambanda and Professor Nyingena,
in Kigali (Rwanda).
During the recent World Jubilee, the Cardinal and
several African bishops participated in the Conference on Education held in
Rome.

Ces derniers jours, une délégation rwandaise, conduite
par le cardinal Antoine Kambanda, archevêque métropolitain de Kigali et grand
chancelier de l'IPEA (Institut pour le Pacte éducatif pour l'Afrique ), était présente à Rome
pour discuter des différentes initiatives entreprises et à entreprendre pour le
développement du Pacte éducatif.
Le cardinal Rwanda (qui a participé au consistoire des
cardinaux présidé par le pape Léon XIII) est le premier cardinal de l'histoire
du Rwanda. Il est une figure particulièrement importante pour l'Église
africaine et pour le chemin de la réconciliation, de la reconstruction et de la
reconnaissance de la figure qui a marqué l'histoire récente de son pays.
Il était également accompagné du professeur Jan-Paul
Niygena, secrétaire général de la Fondation internationale pour la religion et
la société et coordinateur de l'IPEA.
L'IPEA, en collaboration avec des universités
catholiques, non seulement en Afrique, et l'UMEC-WUCT, développe cinq grands
axes de recherche et d'innovation dans l'éducation, en commençant par les
contextes africains : la formation de formateurs et de gestionnaires de
réseaux nationaux ; la diffusion des connaissances et des meilleures
pratiques ; le soutien aux acteurs locaux sur le terrain ; et
l'organisation d'un forum continental et international de consultation, de
partage d'idées et d'expériences.
Depuis 2017, les responsables religieux (cardinaux,
évêques, laïcs, etc.) œuvrent à améliorer la qualité de l'enseignement
catholique en Afrique.
L’UMEC-WUCT y est présente avec ses représentants,
soutenant non seulement l’éducation, mais aussi divers projets et services
sociaux. Grâce à son interaction avec la fondation pontificale et au travail
constant de son ancien président et secrétaire général, ainsi qu’à la présence
active du Père Albert Kabuge (actuellement représentant de l’Union auprès de
l’UNESCO), l’UMEC-WUCT promeut diverses initiatives depuis plus de quinze ans,
en coopération avec l’UNESCO, qui a manifesté et continue de manifester sa
reconnaissance pour le travail de l’Union. Le Saint-Siège suit de près le Pacte
africain pour l’éducation et les différentes initiatives entreprises.
Aujourd'hui encore, UMEC-WUCT reste attachée à cet
engagement.
En mai dernier, le président, Jan De Groof, la prof. Theresa Okafor, et divers
représentants locaux de l'Union ont participé à la conférence sur l'éducation
catholique en Afrique, coordonnée par le cardinal Kambanda et le professeur
Nyingena, à Kigali (Rwanda).
Lors du récent Jubilé mondial, le cardinal et
plusieurs évêques africains ont participé à la Conférence sur l'éducation qui
s'est tenue à Rome.

PARA EL DESARROLLO Y LA PAZ
En los últimos días, una delegación de Ruanda,
encabezada por el Cardenal Antoine Kambanda, Arzobispo Metropolitano de Kigali
y Gran Canciller del IPEA (Instituto para el Pacto Educativo de África ), estuvo presente en Roma
para debatir las diversas iniciativas emprendidas y por emprender para el
desarrollo del Pacto Educativo.
El cardenal Rwanda (quien participó en el Consistorio
Cardenalicio, presidido por el papa León XIII) es el primer cardenal en la
historia de Ruanda. Es una figura particularmente importante para la Iglesia
africana y para el camino de la reconciliación, la reconstrucción y el
reconocimiento de la persona que ha marcado la historia reciente de su país.
También le acompañó el profesor Jan-Paul Niygena,
secretario general de la Fundación Internacional para la Religión y la Sociedad
y coordinador de IPEA.
IPEA, en colaboración con universidades católicas, no
solo en África, y la UMEC-WUCT, está desarrollando cinco ejes principales de
investigación e innovación en educación, comenzando por los contextos
africanos: formación de formadores y gestores de redes nacionales; difusión y
divulgación de conocimientos y mejores prácticas; apoyo a las partes
interesadas locales en el sector; y organización de un foro continental e
internacional para la consulta, el intercambio de ideas y experiencias.

obispos, laicos, etc.) han estado trabajando para mejorar la calidad de la
educación católica en África.
Umec-Wuct opera allí con sus representantes, apoyando

bienestar social. Gracias a su interacción con la fundación papal y al trabajo
constante de su entonces presidente y secretario general, así como a la
presencia activa del padre Albert Kabuge (actualmente representante de la Unión
ante la UNESCO), Umec-Wuct ha impulsado diversas iniciativas durante más de
quince años, cooperando también con la UNESCO, que ha demostrado y sigue demostrando
su aprecio por la labor de la Unión. La Santa Sede presta especial atención al
Pacto Africano para la Educación y a las diversas iniciativas emprendidas.
Aún hoy, UMEC-WUCT mantiene este compromiso.
El pasado mes de mayo, el presidente, Jan De Groof, la prof. Theresa Okafor, y varios
representantes locales de la Unión participaron en la conferencia sobre
educación católica en África, coordinada por el cardenal Kambanda y el profesor
Nyingena, en Kigali (Ruanda).
Durante el reciente Jubileo Mundial, el Cardenal y
varios obispos africanos participaron en la Conferencia sobre Educación
celebrada en Roma.
