UNESCO - EDUCATION THIS WEEK

EDUCATION THIS WEEK (6 – 10 September 2021)

SURVEY

Dear colleagues,

The UNESCO Internal Oversight Service (IOS) Evaluation Office with the support of an independent external consultant team from ‘Ockham IPS, Netherlands' is currently conducting an evaluation of UNESCO Education Sector's work on Inclusion in Education.

In order to take stock of achievements so far, as well as to explore the potential for strengthening the UNESCO Education Sector’s work with a focus on inclusion as well as for enhancing inclusion mainstreaming in education, this survey is designed to collect information on how UNESCO Member States and external stakeholders (UN and other partners, NGOs, experts, donors, and other stakeholders) perceive UNESCO’s work and its role in the area of inclusion in education.

As a member of the network of NGOs associated with UNESCO, your input is of significant value for the evaluation and you are cordially invited to participate in the evaluation survey for external stakeholders, which will take about 15-20 minutes to complete. Your responses will be collected anonymously and will only be analyzed and presented at an aggregated level. All data will be treated with the highest level of confidentiality.

Kindly note:  When we refer to inclusion in education in this survey, we refer to the idea that: "Every learner matters and matters equally" Working on inclusion in education is regarded as a process that helps overcome barriers to the presence, participation and achievement of all learners.

Please access the survey by clicking on the link here.

The deadline for completing this survey is Friday 17 September, 2021. The survey is available in English (EN) / French (FR) / Spanish (ES). You can adjust the language by clicking on the globe icon in the upper right corner of the screen.

Thank you in advance for your participation.

INTERNATIONAL DAYS TAKING PLACE THIS WEEK

Two International Days are taking place this week:

<!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]-->This year’s International Literacy Day (8 Sep) will be celebrated under the theme “Literacy for a human-centred recovery: Narrowing the digital divide”. It will explore how literacy can contribute to building a solid foundation for a human-centred recovery, with a special focus on the interplay of literacy and digital skills required by non-literate youth and adults. UNESCO will award the Literacy Prizes to projects from Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Guatemala, India, Mexico and South Africa. You can register to attend the events taking place on 8 and 9 September here.

 Other resources on this Day:

Press release on Literacy Prizes Laureates

Leaflet on this year’s Laureates (available in ENG, FR and SP)
UNESCO Literacy Prizes page including articles on this year’s Laureates

<!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]-->On 9 September a high-level event marking the International Day to Protect Education from Attack: Protect education for sustainable peace will take place. The theme ‘Protect education for sustainable peace’’ offers an opportunity to highlight that, despite progress in the last twelve months, there have been recurring attacks on education, with an alarming increase incident of kidnappings of schoolchildren and youth. The event will focus on the critical issue of monitoring, reporting and data, and discuss how global leaders, local communities and groups, governmental bodies, academia, and media can engage fully and systematically in shaping advocacy, prevention and protection of education from attack.
