HAPPY MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY

 

Happy Mother Language Day 2022!

Today we celebrate linguistic diversity, which is increasingly threatened as more and more languages disappear. Did you know that globally 40% of the population does not have access to an education in a language they speak or understand?

 

We need to preserve the differences in cultures and languages to foster tolerance and respect for others.

 

You can help spread this important message by sharing the social-media pack prepared for this Day in English, French and Spanish, including GIFs. You are of course welcome to translate the messages in your mother tongues and share with your networks.

SHARE YOUR INPUTS ON THE SDGs – DEADLINE 11 MARCH


The 2022 United Nations High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (2022 HLPF) will be held from 5-7 and 11-15 July 2022. On the theme “Building back better from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”, the meeting will review progress toward the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

•    4 on quality education,

•    5 on gender equality,

•    14 on life below water,

•    15 on life on land, and

•    17 on partnerships for the Goals.

The forum will take into account the different and particular impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic across all Sustainable Development Goals and the integrated, indivisible and interlinked nature of the Goals.

 

The global online consultation is open until 11 March 2022. All stakeholders are invited to contribute concise and focused input for each SDG under review. More information here

 

TRANSFORMING EDUCATION SUMMIT 2022


Last November the UN Secretary-General announced he will convene a Summit on Transforming Education (TES) to take place in New York in September 2022. The Summit is proposed in ‘Our Common Agenda’, as part of the focus on better representing young people and future generations.

UNESCO is hosting the Summit Secretariat, preparing and coordinating the pre-Summit that will take place end of June this year, as well as the main event in September.

You can watch the first TES information briefing to Member States by the UN Deputy Secretary-General and the UNESCO’s Assistant-Director General last Friday. More here

HIGH-LEVEL STEERING COMMITTEE SHERPA MEETING

On 23-24 February your representative, Helen Dabu, CCNGO Coordination Group member, Secretary-General of ASPBAE will attend the first High-Level Steering Committee Sherpa Meeting.


The inaugural HLSC Sherpa Group meeting will:

  • Provide an overview of the strengthened Global Education Cooperation Mechanism (GCM) and the High-Level Steering Committee’s (HLSC) roles and responsibilities and roadmap for 2022-2023
  • Inform on progress on the operationalization of the Committee's three Functional Areas (Evidence, Data and Monitoring, Financing)
  • Identify a set of strategic thematic focus areas to mobilize global cooperation
  • Inform on Transforming Education Summit (TES) and its alignment with the Global Education Cooperation Mechanism 
  • Discuss the HLSC contribution to the High-Level Political Forum thematic review of SDG 4
  • Present a proposal for the Inter-Agency Secretariat's core tasks, responsibilities and operational modalities

JOURNAL OF LIFELONG LEARNING: CALL FOR REVIEWERS


The International Review of Education – Journal of Lifelong Learning (IRE) is seeking to expand its roster of regular reviewers.

IRE is the longest-running international and comparative education journal in the world. It publishes empirical,
theoretical/conceptual and policy-related articles from a variety of disciplinary orientations related to lifelong learning, with a focus on adult and non-formal learning and education.

The IRE team invites emerging and established scholars who work in the broad area of international education and/or lifelong learning from a range of disciplinary perspectives to send us their statements of interest.
