INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CATHOLIC TEACHERS AROUND THE WORLD HELD IN ROMANIA

The international conference on Catholic education around the world begins today. The theme is "Being Catholic Teachers in Different Realities Around the World: Challenges and Hopes."

It is organized by UMEC-WUCT and the Diocese of Oradea. Bishops and teachers from various dioceses, nations, and continents are participating.

The Eparch of Oradea, Bishop Virgil Bercea, co-organizer of the event, and the Vicar, Pope Paul Popa, supporters of the Union's presence and development in Eastern countries, emphasize the importance of the meeting, an opportunity for discussion and planning for all. "We have accepted Pope Leo's invitation to 'draw new maps of hope,'" they tell us. "The presence of Catholic teachers around the world, in fact, is a sign of hope for everyone, Christians and non-Christians alike. Being a Catholic teacher means committing oneself to the values ​​of the Gospel in daily school and social life, respecting diverse realities and cultures. "Go and preach throughout the world," Jesus urged at the moment of his ascension. "Do not be afraid: I am with you."

UMEC-WUCT President Professor Jan De Groof agrees: "The Catholic teacher is called to be an active citizen, to give life to scholastic knowledge, to make it a path of peace, solidarity, and dialogue; to pay attention to the most vulnerable and marginalized and to be a fruitful point of reference for students, families, and the complex realities in which they work."

De Groof is returning from the recent meeting of Catholic teachers in Africa on the educational challenges of the vast continent, organized together with the Archbishop of Kigali (Rwanda), Cardinal Antoine Kambanda, and the "Institut Pacte Éducatif Africain (IPEA). In Africa, the UMEC-WUCT has also been committed for years, together with UNESCO, to promoting education and solidarity initiatives.

The Oradea meeting will feature presentations by Cardinal Parolin, the Archbishop of Cambrai, Monsignor Dollmann (Ecclesiastical Assistant to the Union), representatives of local churches, the Romanian Ministry of Education, various Catholic lay universities and schools, and education delegates from numerous dioceses.

The working days also include participation in Byzantine liturgical events, meetings with Oradea schools, and visits to the city's monuments. The conference will conclude on the 27th.

La conférence internationale sur l'éducation catholique dans le monde débute aujourd'hui. Son thème est : « Être enseignant catholique dans des contextes différents à travers le monde : défis et espoirs ».

Elle est organisée par l'UMEC-WUCT et le diocèse d'Oradea. Des évêques et des enseignants de divers diocèses, pays et continents y participent.

L'éparque d'Oradea, Mgr Virgil Bercea, co-organisateur de l'événement, et le vicaire, le pape Paul Popa, fervents défenseurs de la présence et du développement de l'Union dans les pays d'Orient, soulignent l'importance de cette rencontre, une occasion d'échange et de planification pour tous. « Nous avons répondu à l'invitation du pape Léon XIII à “tracer de nouvelles voies d'espérance” », nous confient-ils. La présence d'enseignants catholiques à travers le monde est, en effet, un signe d'espérance pour tous, chrétiens et non-chrétiens. Être enseignant catholique, c'est s'engager à vivre les valeurs de l'Évangile au quotidien, à l'école comme dans la vie sociale, dans le respect de la diversité des réalités et des cultures. « Allez et prêchez dans le monde entier », a exhorté Jésus lors de son ascension. « N'ayez pas peur : je suis avec vous. » Le professeur Jan De Groof, président de l'UMEC-WUCT, abonde dans ce sens : « L'enseignant catholique est appelé à être un citoyen actif, à donner vie au savoir scolaire, à en faire un chemin de paix, de solidarité et de dialogue ; à être attentif aux plus vulnérables et aux plus marginalisés et à être une source de référence pour les élèves, les familles et les réalités complexes dans lesquelles il évolue. » M. De Groof revient d'une récente rencontre d'enseignants catholiques en Afrique sur les enjeux éducatifs du vaste continent, organisée conjointement avec l'archevêque de Kigali (Rwanda), le cardinal Antoine Kambanda, et l'Institut Pacte Éducatif Africain (IPEA). En Afrique, l'UMEC-WUCT s'engage depuis des années, en collaboration avec l'UNESCO, à promouvoir l'éducation et les initiatives de solidarité.

La conferencia internacional sobre educación católica en todo el mundo comienza hoy. El tema es "Ser docentes católicos en diferentes realidades alrededor del mundo: desafíos y esperanzas".

Está organizada por la UMEC-WUCT y la Diócesis de Oradea. Participan obispos y docentes de diversas diócesis, países y continentes.

The Diocese of Oradea, in a spirit of collaboration with UMEC-WUCT, wishes to hold a meeting in Oradea from May 23 to 27. This meeting will provide a space for mutual understanding, dialogue, and reflection for Catholic educators from various countries, in light of the Pontifical Document "Drawing New Maps of Hope."

At a time when society is troubled by multiple turbulences and widespread uncertainty and violence, education faces profound challenges on the human, cultural, and spiritual levels. Therefore, we increasingly feel the need to journey together, support one another, and rediscover the authentic meaning of the educational mission. Indeed, wherever they work, Christian educators are called not only to impart knowledge, but also to form people rich in humanity, accompany young people on their journey of growth, and bear witness to the values ​​that build a society founded on dignity, hope, and responsibility.

This meeting seeks to foster: a shared reflection on education as a vocation and service; an understanding of the role of the World Union of Catholic Teachers in fostering interaction among Catholic teachers; fraternal relationships, dialogue, and collaboration among educators from diverse backgrounds; the exchange of experiences and best educational practices, useful for addressing current challenges;

The international dimension of the meeting reminds us that no educator is alone in their mission. Communion between different countries, with diverse cultures and experiences, becomes a richness that strengthens each person's commitment and opens up concrete prospects for the future.

La Diocesi di Oradea, in spirito di collaborazione con l’UMEC-WUCT, desidera tenere a Oradea, dal 23 al 27 maggio, un incontro per offrire uno spazio di reciproca conoscenza, di dialogo e riflessione per gli educatori cattolici provenienti da diversi Paesi alla luce del Documento Pontificio “Disegnare nuove mappe di speranza”.

In un tempo in cui la società è travagliata da molteplici turbolenze, e da diffusa incertezza e violenza, l’educazione affronta sfide profonde a livello umano, culturale e spirituale. Perciò avvertiamo sempre più il bisogno di camminare insieme, sostenersi reciprocamente e riscoprire il significato autentico della missione educativa. L’educatore cristiano, infatti, ovunque esso opera, è chiamato non solo a trasmettere conoscenze, ma a formare persone ricche di umanità, accompagnare i giovani nel loro cammino di crescita e testimoniare i valori che costruiscono una società fondata sulla dignità, sulla speranza e sulla responsabilità.

Questo incontro desidera favorire:

una riflessione condivisa sull’educazione come vocazione e servizio;

una comprensione del ruolo dell’Unione Mondiale Insegnanti Cattolici ha nel fare interagire gli insegnanti cattolici;

relazioni di fraternità, dialogo e collaborazione tra educatori di diverse realtà;

lo scambio di esperienze e buone pratiche educative, utili per affrontare le sfide attuali;

La dimensione internazionale dell’incontro ricorda che nessun educatore è solo nella propria missione. La comunione tra Paesi diversi, con culture ed esperienze varie, diventa una ricchezza che rafforza l’impegno di ciascuno e apre prospettive concrete per il futuro.

Father Paul Popa, director of the Pastoral Office for the Laity of the Greek Catholic Diocese of Oradea, has been appointed spiritual assistant in Europe of the World Union of Catholic Teachers (UMEC-WUCT), an international Catholic organization recognized by the Holy See, with consultative status with the Council of Europe, Ecosoc, UNESCO and Unicef. By promoting solidarity, dialogue and cooperation between different educational institutions and realities, the World Union of Catholic Teachers wishes to strengthen the relations and mission of this organization in Europe, especially in Eastern Europe, to support Catholic teachers, who work in both Catholic and secular schools, in the witness of the values of the Gospel in the educational work. Father Popa will collaborate with the current World Assistant, the Archbishop of Cambrai (France), Monsignor Vincent Dollmann, and with the Executive Committee of the Union.

Il Comitato esecutivo, eletto ogni quattro anni dal Consiglio dell’Unione, è attualmente composto da: Monsignore Vincent Dollmann, Arcivescovo di Cambrai (Francia), Prof. Jan De Groof (Presidente), Dr. Giuseppe Desideri (segretario generale), prof. Caroline Healy (tesoriere), Dr. Giovanni Perrone (consigliere speciale).

 Le origini dell'UMEC-WUCT risalgono al 1908, quando i presidenti delle associazioni degli insegnanti cattolici di Austria, Olanda, Svizzera e Germania lanciarono l'idea di una Unione internazionale degli insegnanti cattolici. L’UMEC-WUCT, soppressa dal regime nazista, venne rifondata a Roma nel 1951 grazie al papa Pio XII e ai presidenti di diverse associazioni nazionali (Italia, Francia, Spagna, Olanda, Filippine, Argentina, Colombia, Belgio, Gran Bretagna, Austria …). Essa è riconosciuta dalla Santa Sede, che nomina l’Assistente Ecclesiastico.

ITALY - ROMANIA - CULTURAL EXCHANGES BETWEEN TEACHERS - ECHANGES CULTURELS ENTRE ENSEIGNANTS

Dall'uno al sette febbraio una trentina di insegnanti della Scuola greco-cattolica della Diocesi di Oradea sono a Roma, ospiti dell'AIMC,  per la seconda fase dello scambio culturale tra insegnanti italiani e insegnanti rumeni.

La prima fase è stata realizzata lo scorso novembre quando un gruppo dell'AIMC è stato in Oradea.

Lo scambio avviene nell'ambito degli scambi tra varie scuole del mondo promossi dall'UMEC-WUCT.

Nella settimana sono previsti:

- una fase seminariale per il confronto tra le scuole (programmi, organizzazione, metodi ....);

- visite ad alcune scuole di Roma;

- incontro con responsabili della Congregazione per l'Educazione Cattolica;

- conoscenza dell'AIMC ( finalità, iniziative, organizzazione ....);

- visita a luoghi significativi di Roma.

From one to seven February, about thirty teachers from the Greek-Catholic School of the Diocese of Oradea are in Rome, guests of the AIMC, for the second phase of the cultural exchange between Italian teachers and Romanian teachers.

The first phase was carried out last November when an AIMC group was in Oradea.

The exchange takes place in the context of exchanges between various schools in the world promoted by the UMEC-WUCT.

During the week there are:

- a seminar phase for the comparison between schools (programs, organization, methods ...);

- visits to some schools in Rome;

- meeting with leaders of the Congregation for Catholic Education;

- knowledge of the AIMC (aims, initiatives, organization ....);

- visit to significant places in Rome.

Du 1er au 7 février, une trentaine d’enseignants de l’école catholique gréco-catholique du diocèse d’Oradea sont à Rome invités de l’AIMC pour la deuxième phase de l’échange culturel entre enseignants italiens et enseignants roumains.

La première phase a eu lieu en novembre dernier, lorsqu'un groupe AIMC était à Oradea.

L'échange se déroule dans le cadre d'échanges entre différentes écoles du monde promu par l'UMEC-WUCT.

Au cours de la semaine il y a:

- une phase de séminaire pour la comparaison entre écoles (programmes, organisation, méthodes, etc.);

- visites dans certaines écoles de Rome;

- rencontre avec les responsables de la Congrégation pour l'éducation catholique;

- connaissance de l'AIMC (objectifs, initiatives, organisation, etc.);

- visite de lieux importants à Rome.
